Edith Chepchumba 26 yrs. old lady with a terrible symptom of ongoing fatigue and frequent nosebleeds from Barisheba village, Kisauni constituency going to see her for the first time, visiting her for the sake of knowing about her health situation and what she thinks I should know about her health condition , talking to Edith who got infected with leukaemia at the age of 20 a disease also known as blood cancer a disease which is a cancer of blood forming tissues hindering the body immunity to fight injection a disease which almost put a halt to Edith achieving her life goals .Edith who got infected while at high school she narrates how one day she woke up with chief symptoms related to the disease which include sudden weight loss, frequent infection and easy bleeding something which really became so worrying to her parents and had to be taken to haematologist Dr. Steven Kemboi. Edith narrating to us how she received the news , ‘’ Actually the news came to me as a shock cause at first I didn’t imagine if I could ever get infected with the disease I thought like it was the end of me considering the fact that I had had heard a lot about the disease and the kind of effect it could have upon me , I was a little broken of course I couldn’t give up that early I felt like my end was near but my parents and doctors put a pat on my shoulder and told me they were together with me in this ,I was somehow relieved and had to accept the fact and face the reality and start medication process.’’ Having come to Edith reality that she had conducted the disease which is also accompanied by symptom such as mouth ulcer, nose bleed, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, loos of appetite, and pain in joints and bones. Edith having known his condition, speaking to Dr. Steven who was under the care of Edith, ‘‘the disease has variable treatment and that is slow treatment which is treated by monitoring the disease and aggressive leukaemia whose treatment include chemotherapy which is treated by stem cell transplant and now for Edith’s case it that kind of aggressive leukaemia.’’ Edith narrating how relieved she was hearing that she was going to get a treatment of the disease, speaking to the doctor how the treatment is done, ‘the treatment of Edith‘s disease, aggressive leukaemia that is actually done through a medical procedure known as hematopoietic, this is a procedure whereby the stem cells are transplanted to restore a person immune system and the cells can be from a donor or one`s cell, but for Edith’s case she’ll have to get her cells transplanted from a donor. ‘’ Edith narrating to me about how hard it was for her to find a donor for the cells in order for her medication to proceed, ‘’ when I had from the doctors that for my case I need a donor , that thing really stressed me cause I was like where am I going to get a donor or who is going to step in to help me it took me almost a month to find the right donor and I felt much relived , plus getting the donor wasn’t the only problem I had also problem with raising funds for my medication because considering the background of our family the bill was too much for us to afford , but all thanks to the sponsors and well-wisher s who helped me out. Edith whom up to now is still battling the disease though still under medication and hopes that one day she’s going to come out fully fit than she was before. Asked what she could tell other people out there battling the disease Edith had to say this, ‘‘they should take heart and never give up despite how hard the situation can get and let’s hope that one day will recover god willingly and keep trusting on God to do his part.’ and it’s with all our due hope Edith and the those who are suffering to come out victorious.
